Mission Statement

Various individual research has shown that participating in support groups can help to manage mental disorders, increase medication compliance and is a useful tool in recovery. If, after attending a few meetings, you do not find our particular meeting to be what you are looking for, or if it does not provide you with a positive experience, we would highly encourage you to seek out other support groups that may work better for you. We feel that the ability to share our daily issues and challenges with others that have similar disorders is a positive, rewarding experience. In addition, many of our members have developed new friendships within the group.

Our Support Group is not designed to replace treatment by a Psychiatrist, Doctor or Therapist. Any comments or opinions shared in this group do not reflect medical or therapeutic advice regardless of the individual members' training or background. Unfortunately, due to our small size, training, and limited space, we do not have the ability to offer individual groups for family members and friends, nor do we offer specific "educational" segments during our meetings. There are other groups in the metro area that can offer these services. If you are interested in more information about these other meetings, we have an "Other Groups" section of this website (see link above) that contains a list of other meetings in the Denver Metro Area.

This support group maintains a telephone support list. Our phone list is confidential and provided for group members only.

As this group deals with confidential, personal and sensitive issues, visitors are not permitted. This does not apply to newcomers who are accompanied by a family member, spouse or support person on your FIRST visit.

The most frequent diagnosis in our group is bipolar disorder in its many various forms, but we are not a strictly bipolar focused group. Some of the other conditions our members are afflicted with are autism/Asperger's, anxiety, borderline personality, depression, seasonal affective, Tourette's, schizoaffective, and various other mental and mood disorders.

Anxiety disorders

occur when a person is unusually anxious or panicked without reason.

Autism/Asperger's disorders

are usually diagnosed in childhood and are pervasive developmental disorders.

Bipolar disorder

is characterized by mood shifts beyond normal moods and includes mania, hypomania and serious depressions.

Borderline personality disorder

is characterized by an unstable sense of self and lability of mood.

Depression

as the name implies, is a mood disorder which doesn't include a manic or hypomanic state, but involves extreme negative feelings.

Gender identity disorder

is a when a person's gender (feelings of masculinity or femininity) doesn't match their biological sex.

Schizoaffective disorder

is often similar to bipolar disorder but with hallucinations, usually auditory and persistent.

Schizophrenia

is often marked by a major disconnect from reality. Hallucinations may not be recognized as such.

Seasonal affective disorder

occurs when a person's moods change with the seasons, with depression occurring during the winter.

Tourette's syndrome

is marked by involuntary movements or speech. It can be brought on by a failed suicide attempt using certain medications.

We accept all mental illnesses. We do not judge. We try to lend our support to each member of the group.
